This September, Waste Not, Arizona’s only perishable food rescue organization, is joining the nationwide awareness movement for Hunger Action Month. This month is dedicated to inspiring people to take action and raise awareness of the fact that in Arizona, nearly 1 in 3 Arizona grow up in poverty, with limited access to adequate nutrition needed to help them grow and learn and 2 million Arizonans are food insecure.
Waste Not provides a unique approach to solving the hunger problem in Arizona by rescuing perishable food from food donors such as grocers, caterers, resorts and restaurants and delivering the food to a network of over 100 nonprofits who are dedicated to feeding the hungry and making our community a better place. Without warehousing food and with door-to-door same day delivery, Waste Not ensures that their recipient agency partners are provided with fresh, nutritious food daily.
This year, Waste Not asks supporters to check in on social media, take a selfie and let everyone know you’re behind Waste Not and their efforts to feed the hungry. Waste Not will share their supporters photos and their enthusiasm on their social media pages.
These photos can be posted to social media with #DriveHungerOutSeptember and tag @WasteNotInc to join the conversation.

Dee Mitten, President & CEO of Waste Not offers “hungry tummies do not aid in learning, in developing strong minds and bodies or in enabling young people to grow into healthy, secure adults. We hear of hungry children being unable to discern whether they are sick…or hungry. We must all unite to do what we can to get behind this crucial community and national issue and help feed our hungry kids.”
